Professor Sampath Kehelwalatenna currently serves as a Professor in the Department of Accounting, Faculty of Management and Finance, University of Colombo. He has been an active contributor to quality assurance activities at the faculty and the university by serving as a member of various committees which developed and revised quality assurance mechanisms. He also served as the Coordinator of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell of the Faculty of Management and Finance and has conducted workshops on the preparation for Postgraduate Programme Review of faculties, institutes, and the campus of the University of Colombo.
He has also held positions such as Head of the Department of Accounting, Coordinator of the ELTA-ELSE (AHEAD) Project of the Department of Accounting, Coordinator of the Academic Affairs Unit of the Faculty of Management and Finance, Coordinator of the Master of Business Administration in International Business programme, and Editor in Chief of the Colombo Business Journal.
