The Launch of the South Asian Environmental Law Report
The South Asian Environmental Law Report (SAELR) 2021, volume 1 which is a collaborative effort of the Centre for Environmental Justice (CEJ) and the Centre for Environmental Law and Policy (CELP) of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo was launched on the 30th October 2021 at the Water’s Edge hotel with the eminent presence of the Minister of Justice, Honourable Mohamed Ali Sabry PC and the Vice Chancellor of University of Colombo, Professor Chandrika N Wijeyaratne. The Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Dr. Sampath Punchihewa, The Head, Department of Public and International Law, Faculty of Law, University of Colombo, Professor Wasantha Seneviratne, Senior Attorney at Law and Advisor to CELP, Dr. Jagath Gunawardana, the Founding Director, CELP, Dr. Kokila Konasinghe were among the distinguished guests who graced the occasion. SAELR 2021 is an attempt to showcase a few selected landmark cases from South Asia that have significantly contributed to the development of the environmental jurisprudence in domestic, regional and global contexts. SAELR is expected to be an invaluable resource to practitioners, academics, students or anyone interested in the preservation of the environment and a momentous contribution to the environmental protection in the country.
