Signing of contracts between the University of Colombo and the Ministry of Education
University of Colombo and the Ministry of Education signed contracts on the 14th of February 2023 to conduct two national-level studies. The Ministry of Education has commissioned the University of Colombo two national assessments of achievement of students completing grades 4 and 8 in the year 2022. The Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne and Mr M.N. Ranasinghe, the Secretary of the Ministry of Education signed the contacts and the two research studies will be conducted by the National Education Research Center (NEREC) of the Faculty of Education.
The national assessment of the achievement level of students who completed grade 4 in the year 2022 will be used to determine the achievement of learning outcomes in Mathematics and English while the national assessment of achievement of students who completed grade 8 will examine the achievement of learning outcomes in mathematics and English. The NEREC has been conducting national-level assessments for the Ministry of Education since 2002.
