Vice-Chancellor’s message – COVID-19 Outbreak Notices | We made a collective decision..
Dear members of staff and students,
I convey my sincere appreciation to you all for your support and cooperation in dealing with a possible threat of resurgence of COVID19 infection. I appreciate how each and every one of you, from differing study programs and settings, have abided with the best of health and safety protocols specified by the authorities required for our daily living. As a responsible university community; the rector, deans and directors took stock on Sunday the 04th of October 2020, as to how many of our students and staff are in the specified areas of lockdown. Thereby we made a collective decision last night that no student must be left out of examinations. Hence, we have differed all pre-planned assessments and examinations by one week.
Additionally, we have decided that all students in hostels should remain indoors for at least the next 48 hours and for all teachers to conduct their scheduled teaching-learning activities via zoom. For those students who face challenges with on-line teaching, kindly make contact with your assigned academic staff member. With regard to staff in the areas of lockdown, please communicate your issues to the Dean/Director and administrative head of your faculty and help our university function within your capacity.
It is best we defer all physical movements and functions on campus and mitigate health risks to the fullest, for the next two days. In parallel, the welfare branch through the student counsellors, will address the wellbeing of all our students through a holistic approach. Please respond to these offers and make sure you remain healthy in body and mind.
I wish everyone the best of health and wellbeing.
We shall keep you updated on our further plans.
Yours truly,
Professor Chandrika Wijeyaratne
Vice-Chancellor
