UOC signs an MOU with the Centre for Defense Research and Development (CDRD)
A memorandum of understanding was signed between the Center for Defense Research and Development (CDRD) and University of Colombo on 8th December 2022. This was based on CDRD inviting UOC to have collaborative research on national concerns of the country by sharing the expertise of the UOC. CDRD was established on 29th July 2006 with a vision of establishing a world-class science and technology base providing the military with a decisive edge, by equipping them with internationally competitive systems and solutions.
The main objective of the collaboration is to identify opportunities for technical consultancy and cooperation, joint research and development, and technical training in disciplines of mutual interest. Further, the CDRD shall explore the possibility of obtaining the specialist technical expertise of the faculty members of UOC through project consultancies, R&D project implementations, training programs, and technology development initiatives. UOC shall explore the possibility of obtaining the specialist technical expertise of the CDRD through R&D project implementations, training programs, and technology development initiatives. The Parties discussed and negotiated the details of the project consultancies, R&D project implementations, training programs, and technology development initiatives and all terms applicable in each case prior to implementation and shall enter into separate agreements in respect thereof; and both parties shall devote their maximum commitment to complete ongoing activities as per the agreements signed.
This historical moment was attended by Senior Professor (Chair) HD Karunaratne, the Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Dr DM Karunadasa, Head of the Department, Department of Geography and Dr Pathmakumara Jayasingha, the coordinator for the project and as the delegates from CDRD, Major General KRP Rowel (Retd), Director General Center for Defence Research and Development (CDRD), Commodore TDS Silva, Deputy Director General, CDRD, Group Captain AS Elegoda, Chief Coordinator, CDRD, Colonel MR Hameem, Staff Officer I, CDRD and Commander KHN Kulapathi, Chief Coordinator (IT & GIS), CDRD also attended.
