Sri Lanka’s first Hydrogen Methane Breathalyzer installed at the Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine

The Department of Physiology, Faculty of Medicine, marked a significant milestone with the launch of Sri Lanka’s first Hydrogen Methane Breathalyzer, signifying the full operational readiness of the newly refurbished Gastrointestinal Physiology Laboratory. With this advancement, the lab is now fully equipped to conduct daily clinical investigations for patients, enhancing both patient care services and academic research activities.

This achievement was made possible through the generous donation of Drs Anula and Ajita Wijesundere, distinguished alumni of the Faculty of Medicine, whose support continues to uplift medical innovation and education in Sri Lanka.
The ceremonial launch was held on June 18, 2025, at the Faculty premises, with the presence of Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Senior Professor Vajira H W Dissanayake, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, along with faculty staff members.
