Message from the Chancellor

As the chancellor of the University of Colombo, it is with sincere thankfulness that I forward this message for the souvenir of forthcoming graduation ceremony of the University of Colombo. Free education provision in Sri Lanka is the foundation of social development as a whole. University system is the central point of this well-established free welfare service. The most vital resource of free education is the youth generation. With the support of free education our younger generation becomes powerful as a well-educated group. Also they are brought up in a such a way that they are well equipped with knowledge and competence to reach the objectives of the education. “Knowledge” is the core of “existence” of present world scenario. “Competence” is the driving force of the “development” aspect while “attitudes” are the anchoring of “being good”. It is my wish that our country will develop upon these three pillars of existence, development and being good. Through our commitment and dedication, we should work with the best endowments of the essence of ‘existence through knowledge’, ‘development through competence’ and ‘being good through attitude’ “අප්පමාදො අමතපදං – Appamado Amatha Padhan” the saying of Buddha, teaches us that delays lead to self degradation, thus it is an imperative aspect that we need to enrich our younger generation educationally without any further delays. It is always needed the reach best and good in accomplishing each and every ambition completely. Accordingly, we need to pave path for educated young generation to channel their learned and earned knowledge, intelligence, competence, creativity ant attitude optimistically. It is the requirement of present era. I wish that the University of Colombo could continue in producing more of well educated, intelligent, creative and optimistic young generation. This is the right time to further continue working towards this important aspect. Let us begin this endeavor from a novel approach today itself and with this young human resources, we will work towards establishing an economically advanced family setup and well-developed country.
