NLDSB Delegation Visits Science Library for Technological Insights

A delegation comprising the Director General of the National Library and Documentation Services Board of Sri Lanka (NLDSB), Mr W. Sunil, the Director of the National Library and Documentation Centre (NLDC), Mrs Padma Bandaranayake, as well as other Deputy Directors, Heads of Departments, and staff members of the NLDSB, visited the Library of the Faculty of Science on May 24th, 2023.
The purpose of the visit was to explore the modern technology and innovative spaces provided in the Science Library. The delegates engaged in a productive discussion with the Dean of the Faculty of Science, Senior Professor Upul Sonnadara, and the Acting Librarian, Mrs Sajeewanie Somaratna, regarding the available modern library facilities and the wide range of information services offered by the Science Library. The importance of fostering collaboration between the two institutions was also emphasized. Subsequently, the team had the opportunity to observe and familiarize themselves with the state-of-the-art amenities offered by the Science Library, which include an automated circulation process and a library security system powered by RFID technology.
Additionally, the delegation took part in a library tour and experienced various learning spaces equipped with modern technology. This event will contribute to collaborative library operations, connecting a wider range of services and stakeholders in Sri Lanka.
