Inauguration Ceremony of the nEUROcare capacity building project
nEURO care Project- European initiative for capacity building to meet the challenges of caring for people with Neurodegenerative Disorders in Sri Lanka
The Inauguration Ceremony of the nEUROcare capacity building project of the Faculty of Nursing was held on 7th February 2022 at Waters Edge, Battaramulla followed by an international workshop with the participation of four Sri Lankan universities and four European universities. The aim of this project is to develop new and innovative courses and methodologies in healthcare, in order to develop the human capacities in the field of Neurodegenerative disorders within the four, selected Higher Education Institutions of Sri Lanka.
Professor Chandrika N Wijeyaratne, the Vice Chancellor, University of Colombo participated as a Chief Guest. In addition, Professor Santh Dammika Deputy Vice Chancellor, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, Professor SSP Warankulasuriya, Dean/Faculty of Nursing, University of Colombo, Dr. ARN Silva, Acting Dean, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University and representative from Faculty of the Allied Health Sciences University of Ruhuna, University of Peradeniya graced the occasion.
The Project coordinator, Professor Martin Persson, Kristianstad University, Sweden and other representatives from three European universities such as Triskelion University, Norway, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia, University of Tartu, Estonia and Neapolis University Pafos, Cyprus, also participated. In addition, project managers and project members of all four local universities such as University of Colombo, General Sir John Kotelawala Defense University, University of Peradeniya and University of Ruhuna attended the inauguration ceremony.
The international workshop was continued after the inauguration ceremony from 7th to 11th February 2022. A total of 25 participants (project managers and project members) from all four local universities and four partner EU universities participated in the workshop. The aim of the workshop was to develop the course structure for Master Degree, Diploma and Certificate program on Neurodegenerative disorders based on Sri Lankan Qualification Framework. The development of these courses were facilitated by the Neurosurgeon, Neurologist, Psychologist and General physician visited from EU partner universities. Trainers from local universities were facilitated to improve the provision of care for patients with neurodegenerative diseases through these courses.
Professor SSP Warankulasuriya, Dean/Faculty of Nursing (Project Manager), Dr. Gnanaselvam Kisokanth, Mrs. WA Rupa Pathmini Menike, Miss. MGA Shiroma Malkanthie and Mrs. Chandrani Menike Herath participated from the Faculty of Nursing, University of Colombo.
