Local Chinese Teachers’ Training in Sri Lanka

The Confucius Institute, University of Colombo together with the National Institute of Education successfully conducted the “Local Chinese Teachers’ Training in Sri Lanka 2021” on 20th – 21st May 2021. This event was carried out in the form of online via zoom platform. Fifty-three Chinese teachers from various schools across Sri Lanka participated in this training program. The training was based on G.C.E A/L Examination Chinese Syllabus, and test papers in the past five years, and covered the areas of teaching and learning of Chinese pronunciation, Chinese characters, writing, Chinese culture, and literature, etc.

Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu, Dean, Faculty of Arts, University of Colombo, Dr. Sunil Jayantha Nawarathna, Director General of the National Institute of Education, Professor Wimal Hewamanage, Sri Lankan Director of the Confucius Institute, University of Colombo, Dr. Darshana Samaraweera, Deputy Director General, Faculty of Languages, Humanities and Social Sciences, and Ven. Theripha Medhalankara, Head, Department of Classical Languages & Foreign Languages, National Institute of Education attended the event. All the leaders appreciated the collaborative work and highlighted the necessity of learning Chinese for future purposes. Lectures were given by the academic staff of the Confucius Institute, University of Colombo, and invited subject experts from Honghe University, China including Professor Lei Mingzhen. <Read more>
