JICA Chair Program 2024/25 Inaugural Ceremony
On August 28, 2024, the University of Colombo celebrated the launch of the JICA Chair Program 2024/25 at the FGS Auditorium. The event was honoured by the presence of His Excellency Mizukoshi Hideaki, Ambassador of Japan to Sri Lanka; Mr Yamada Tetsuya, Chief Representative of JICA Sri Lanka; and Senior Professor (Chair) H D Karunaratne, Vice Chancellor of the University.
The JICA Chair Program, initiated by the Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), aims to support future leaders in developing countries through comprehensive Japanese studies. The program explores Japan’s modernization and development cooperation, offering intensive lectures on topics such as politics, economics, and public administration, delivered by experts from Japan and Sri Lanka in both online and onsite formats.
The inauguration featured addresses from Dr Iroja Caldera, Director of the International Office; Mr Yamada Tetsuya; Professor H D Karunaratne; and Ambassador Mizukoshi Hideaki. The ceremony also included a lecture by Professor Itami Hiroyuki (DVD) and a presentation by the Vice Chancellor on “Economic Growth and Japanese Management.”
The collaborative efforts of the International Office at the University of Colombo and the JICA Sri Lanka Office were instrumental in organizing this program, which aims to foster international knowledge exchange and academic partnerships.
