‘(Re)thinking Nature: Follow Thy Old Wisdom’ published in Commonwealth Review Magazine

An article co-authored by Dr. Kokila Konasinghe of the Faculty of Law, University of Colombo and Ms. Asanka Edirisinghe of the Faculty of Law, General Sir John Kotelawela Defence University is published in the Commonwealth Review Magazine, which is widely circulated within more than 500 member universities of the Association of commonwealth Universities both as an e version and a printed version. The authors discuss three case studies on King Devanampiyatissa ( 247BC-207 BC), King Elara (204BC-104BC) and King Buddhadasa (AD 341-370) to explore how ancient rulers of Sri Lanka maintained law and order within the kingdoms in harmony with nature. The article emphasises that the ecocentric decision making is not a novel concept but one enshrined in the foundations of Sri Lankan heritage.
