Education Delegation from Sichuan Province Visits University of Colombo to Strengthen Academic Collaboration
The University of Colombo received an education delegation from Sichuan Province, People’s Republic of China, on 9th June 2026. The delegation comprised senior academic and administrative representatives from several leading universities across the province. The visit was led by Ms Cai Guangjie, Deputy Director-General of the Education Department of Sichuan Province, and included representatives from Sichuan University of Science & Engineering, Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Southwest Medical University, Neijiang Normal University, Chengdu University of Technology, Southwest University of Science and Technology, Sichuan Agricultural University, and China West Normal University.
The meeting opened with welcome remarks by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo. Members of the delegation introduced their respective universities, after which discussions centred on knowledge exchange, innovation, and potential areas for collaboration. Professor Kanchana Abeysekara, Dean of the Faculty of Technology, and Dr Iroja Caldera, Director of the International Office, were also in attendance and contributed to the discussion. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides expressing commitment to advancing a partnership that fosters academic and research collaboration between the University of Colombo and the visiting higher education institutions.
