
Cuban Ambassador Visits University of Colombo to Explore New Academic Collaboration Opportunities
On 9 June 2026, H.E. Dr Patricia Lázara Pego Guerra, Ambassador of Cuba to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, visited the University of Colombo. She met with Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo; Professor Iresha Lakshman, Dean of the Faculty of Arts; Dr Pavithra Jayawardena, Head of the Department of International Relations; and Dr Iroja Caldera, Director of the International Office.
Discussions explored potential avenues for academic collaboration across a range of fields, including medicine, nursing, history, education, science and law. Opportunities for language studies, joint conferences, and staff mobility were also discussed. Following the meeting, the Ambassador visited the Sir Ivor Jennings Museum at College House and took the opportunity to admire the building’s historic architecture.
