Ninety-Eight Candidates Shine at the Diploma Awarding Ceremony of the Diploma in Public Law 2021/2022
The Department of Public & International Law of the Faculty of Law celebrated the success of the awardees of the Diploma in Public Law for the academic year 2021/2022. The Diploma Awarding Ceremony took place at the Lotus Conference Room of the BMICH from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on July 17, 2023. The ceremony was graced by Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne, Vice Chancellor of the University, and Professor Sampath Punchihewa, the Dean of the Faculty of Law. The dignitaries were welcomed by Professor Kokila Konasinghe, the Head of the Department of Public & International Law.
In his speech, Vice Chancellor Professor Karunaratne spoke of the unique position of the Faculty of Law as the only institution of its kind in the state university system and commended the Department of Public & International Law for its forward thinking. He also highlighted the importance of cherishing diversity and adapting to change. The Diploma in Public Law is an innovative course introduced by the Department and coordinated by Professor (Chair) Wasantha Seneviratne. The course delivers lectures and discussions on a range of contemporary public law issues. The event marked the graduation of the first batch of Diploma holders for this course. The course was conducted in all three languages, and ninety-eight candidates successfully completed it. Among them, three candidates achieved a distinction pass, and thirty-seven candidates achieved a merit pass. The event is a milestone in the journey of the Diploma in Public Law conducted by the Department of Public & International Law.
