Delegation from Peking University and Capital Normal University Visits for Strengthening Research and Academic Partnerships

A delegation from Peking University and Capital Normal University, China, visited the University of Colombo on 15th August 2025. The delegation was led by Professor Wang Weijia, Dean of the Institute of International Communication at Peking University, and Associate Research Fellow Zhai Xiufeng from the Institute of Global and Area Studies at Capital Normal University. The group also included six postgraduate students from the School of Journalism and Communication, Peking University.
They held discussions with Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Colombo, on topics including international communication, journalism studies, and opportunities in online teaching and learning. Professor Karunathilake proposed collaborative archival research between Sri Lanka and China, and encouraged online discussions among postgraduate students from both countries.
Ms Chamila Somirathna and Ms Fathima Shanaz from the Department of Communication and Creative Arts, together with Ms Pradeepa Dissanayake from the Sri Palee Campus, represented the University at the meeting. Dr Iroja Caldera, Director of the International Office, was also in attendance.
