
Centre for Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation in Social Policy Established with UNFPA & Japan Support
The Centre for Multidisciplinary Research and Innovation in Social Policy was launched on 13th August 2025. Its vision is to be a leading hub for research and innovation in South Asia, focusing on population dynamics, gender, and reproductive health from a rights-based perspective. The Centre’s main goal is to transform research findings into actionable policy by providing evidence-based recommendations and fostering strategic partnerships with global institutions to share innovative solutions. The Centre was established with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Government of Japan.
The event was graced by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor, University, Mr Kenji Ohashi, First Secretary and Head of Economic and Development Cooperation of the Embassy of Japan, and Mr Kunle Adeniyi, Country Representative, UNFPA. Academics and researchers from the University system in Sri Lanka and representatives from National and International organisations also attended the event. A book titled ‘Population Dynamics in Sri Lanka: Socio-economic and health perspectives’, published by the Centre, was also launched at the event.
