Colombo Medical Congress 2021
The Colombo Medical Congress (CMC) instituted in the year 2020 to mark the 150th Anniversary of the Faculty is the annual Congress of the Faculty. CMA 2021 was organised from 25th to 27th November 2021 as a hybrid event. The theme of this year’s Congress was “NCDs and COVID-19: Tackling Two Pandemics Through Collaborative Research. The highlight of the Congress was the Faculty Oration on “Foetal programming and its relevance to the obesity/ diabetes pandemic in Sri Lanka” delivered by Dr. Sumudu Seneviratne, Senior Lecturer and Consultant Paediatric Endocrinologist and the inaugural COMSA oration on “The journey of COVID- 19 in Sri Lanka” delivered by Dr. Ananda Wijewickrama, the Senior Consultant Physician at the National Institute of Infectious Diseases.
The CMC 2021 which was jointly organized by the Colombo Medical Faculty Alumni Association (CoMSAA) and the Research Promotion and Facilitation Center (RPFC) of the Faculty of Medicine, University of Colombo featured two plenary lectures and nine symposia.
The Inauguration ceremony featured the keynote address on “The public health impact of COVID-19” by the Guest of Honour, Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, the Chief Scientist of the World Health Organisation and the address on “Online Teaching / Learning Activities and Ranking of State Universities” by the Chief Guest, Prof. Sampath Amaratunga, the Chairman of the University Grants Commission.
