Certificate Awarding Ceremony for the Diploma in Technologies of Waste Management – Faculty of Technology

The Certificate awarding ceremony for the Diploma in Technologies of Waste Management was held on September 18, 2023, at the Cinema Hall, BMICH. Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne was the chief guest of the ceremony, and Mr Johann Hesse, the Head of the Corporation, Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, was the guest of honour. The occasion was graced by Ms Malin Herwig, Deputy Resident Representative-UNDP, administrative officers from the government, officials from the UNDP, officials from the Waste Management Authority Western Province, and staff members from the University. A total of 41 participants who successfully completed the course were awarded the Diploma.
This Diploma course was conducted by the Department of Environmental Technology, Faculty of Technology, in collaboration with the Waste Management Authority Western Province. This nationally important course was designed for local authority officials in the Uva province who are engaged in waste management in their respective localities, with the aim of providing them with both theoretical and practical knowledge of the technologies available for sustainable waste management. The course was fully funded by the UNDP-European Union through the Uva Provincial Council, and the implementation of the course was a collective effort of academia, government, and non-governmental organizations for the betterment of the country.
