Book launch: “Legacy of Palmyra”: The Victims of Dual Horizontal Inequalities in Northern Sri Lanka
The book titled “Legacy of Palmyra”: The Victims of Dual Horizontal Inequalities in Northern Sri Lanka authored by Dr Ajith Balasooriya, was launched at the Faculty of Arts premises on August 9th, 2023. The book aims to proceed beyond the already established analysis of the Sri Lankan ethnic conflict arising from ethnic-based socioeconomic inequalities and deprivations. To pursue this effort, the study expressly highlights and explores how social structures within the Tamil community are traditionally established.
The Vice Chancellor of the University, Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne graced the event as the chief guest and the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu was the guest of honour of the event. The Head of the Department of International Relations, Professor Chaminda Padmakumara welcomed all invitees and congratulated Dr Balasooriya for publishing a book on one of the important sub-areas in International Relations, followed by Dr Balasooriya introduced the book and highlighted the motives behind his publication.
Subsequently, the first copy of the book was presented to the Vice Chancellor to symbolize the launching of the book. Professor Iresha Lakshman, the Head of the Department of Sociology who reviewed the book, highlighted the salient features of the publication and further explained where the author stands in the genre of inquiry. The audience comprised the Head of the Departments, coordinators Senior Professors, faculty members, students, and other distinguished invitees.
