Over the course of its rich pioneering history, celebration of its sesquicentennial in medical education, and a century of higher education in the Arts and Sciences, the University of Colombo has achieved many important conceptual and pedagogical research milestones which have had a significant impact on society, culture, our environment, and the economy, not only in Sri Lanka but also globally. The University of Colombo Annual Research Symposium (ARS) is a flagship event in the calendar of our university, established to further promote and encourage our heritage of vibrant research and innovation. It provides a university-wide opportunity for undergraduate/ graduate students and faculty members to showcase their research, scholarship, and creativity.
The ARS 2020, held for the 13th consecutive year, was held across the Sri Palee Campus, nine faculties, the University Of Colombo School Of Computing, three institutes, and the main University library and two Departmental international conferences (details under faculty symposia page). The concluding ceremony of the ARS 2020 will be held on 21st January 2021, coinciding with the centenary celebrations of our Faculties of Arts and Science, under the theme Research & Innovation: challenges and opportunities in the new normal. The chief guest at the event is Her Excellency Sarah Hulton, OBE, the British High Commissioner to Sri Lanka. The highlights of this event will be the presentation of the Senate Awards for Research Excellence under the Open and Early Career categories to a total of 83 academics, and the Keynote Address by an illustrious Sri Lankan scientist, Prof. Mohan Edirisinghe OBE, FREng, FEurAcadSci, of the University College London. The collated proceedings of the ARS 2020 will be available on this web page in due course.
Observing strict healthcare guidelines under the new normal, the concluding ceremony of the University of Colombo ARS 2020 would be held as a virtual event. We cordially invite you to be part of this event by logging on to this page to join its live streaming
