
Orientation Programme of the 29th CTHE Programme – SDC
The Staff Development Centre (SDC) inaugurated the 29th batch of the Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (CTHE) on 11 March 2026 in the Senate Hall of College House. A total of 75 participants enrolled in this programme, marking another significant step in strengthening academic excellence within the university.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by the Director of the centre, Senior Professor S P Premaratne. In his remarks, he emphasised that structured professional development is a cornerstone in fostering excellence in university-level teaching and learning. Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, the Vice Chancellor of the University, delivered the keynote session titled “Introduction to the University System.” His address provided participants with valuable insights into the higher education framework and the University’s institutional heritage. Ms T D Pathiranage, Deputy Registrar of the Academic Establishments Branch, conducted a session on promotion and career advancement criteria, leave entitlements, administrative procedures, and internal awards and recognition frameworks. She outlined the relevant administrative processes and regulations applicable to academic staff.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and a technical introduction by Dr S. Rajadurai, the Acting CTHE Coordinator. He elaborated on the objectives and rigorous expectations of the nine-month programme, which is specifically designed to enhance the pedagogical competencies of university academics.
