Ural Federal University Delegation Explores Academic and Research Collaboration

A delegation from Ural Federal University (UrFU), Russia, visited the University of Colombo on 29 January 2026. The delegation comprised Mrs Iana Vysotskaia, Director of the Department of International Educational Programs, Ms Elena Pelymskaia, Leading Manager of Projects of the Department of International Educational Programs and Dr Borisov Vasilii, Associate Professor of Artificial Intelligence Educational and Scientific Centre/Head of Educational Program on “Practical artificial intelligence”.

The delegation met with Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice-Chancellor of the University, and Dr Iroja Caldera, Director of the International Office, to discuss strengthening cooperation under the existing Memorandum of Understanding between the two universities. Discussions focused on potential academic and research collaborations in key subject areas, including artificial intelligence (AI), engineering, and the application of AI in medicine.
In addition, the UrFU delegation invited the University of Colombo to nominate students for their upcoming Summer University Program and the World Youth Festival, which will be held at Ural Federal University later this year.
