
University of Colombo Retains Top Position in Sri Lanka in THE World University Rankings 2027
The Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings 2027 were released on 30 September 2026 and feature 2,297 universities from 118 countries and territories. The rankings evaluate universities based on five core pillars: Teaching (the learning environment), Research Environment (research volume, income, and reputation), Research Quality (citation impact, research strength, research excellence, and research influence), International Outlook (international staff, students, and research), and Industry (industry income and patents).
The University of Colombo has been ranked in the 1001–1200 band globally and has retained its position as the leading university among Sri Lankan higher education institutions. This achievement reflects the University of Colombo’s continued commitment to academic excellence, research advancement, and global engagement.
The University of Colombo continues to rank among the top Sri Lankan universities in major global university ranking systems, including Times Higher Education (THE), QS World University Rankings, and Webometrics.
