
LOLC and University of Colombo Partner to Develop Industry-Ready Graduates
The LOLC Life Assurance Limited and LOLC General Insurance PLC (collectively referred to as LOLC) and the University of Colombo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 27 January 2026, to strengthen collaboration between academia and industry in the financial and insurance sectors. The signing ceremony was attended by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor of the University, Mr Kithsiri Gunawardena, Chairman of LOLC, Mr Chandana L. Aluthgama, Executive Director of LOLC, and Ms K. C. S. Perera, Registrar of the Universtiy.
This partnership reflects a shared commitment to developing skilled, industry-ready graduates while advancing research and innovation in the financial and insurance sectors. The collaboration is implemented through the Department of Mathematics, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, with a particular focus on supporting students enrolled in the BSc in Finance & Insurance degree program.
Under the terms of the MOU, LOLC will provide internship and management trainee opportunities for fourth-year undergraduates and graduates, offering valuable industry exposure and practical learning experiences. In addition, LOLC will contribute expert knowledge through training programs, workshops, and seminars, enhancing both the technical competencies and professional skills of students. The partnership also extends to joint research initiatives in the financial sector, encouraging knowledge sharing and industry–academia engagement. Through this collaboration, both parties aim to enhance graduate employability, strengthen industry–university linkages, and contribute meaningfully to the sustainable development of Sri Lanka’s financial and insurance sectors.
