Building a State-of-the-Art Swimming Complex with Alumni Generosity

The Alumni Association will coordinate the construction of a state-of-the-art Swimming Pool Complex for the University, marking a significant milestone in the enhancement of the university’s sports infrastructure. This modern facility will feature:

  • A 25m x 25m, 10-lane swimming pool with a depth of 1.8 meters, suitable for short course swimming competitions and water polo.
  • A 5m x 25m, 2-lane swimming pool with a depth of 1 meter, ideal for teaching swimming and warm-up sessions.
  • Separate male and female changing rooms for all users.
  • A 160-seat covered spectator stadium.
  • A gymnasium space of approximately 3,000 sq. ft., complete with changing rooms, lockers, and toilets.
  • Additional amenities include a lobby, office space, cafeteria, and parking facilities.

Building a State-of-the-Art Swimming Complex with Alumni Generosity

The total estimated cost of construction, approximately LKR 350 million, will be fully funded by Dr Romesh Dias Bandaranaike, a distinguished alumnus of the University. The University extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr Bandaranaike for this remarkable and generous contribution to his alma mater. The Memorandum of Understanding for this landmark project was officially signed on July 11, 2025, at the College House premises. The agreement was signed by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, and Dr. Romesh Dias Bandaranaike, with President’s Counsel Rajeev Amarasuriya and Ms Sanjeewani Perera, Registrar of the University, serving as witnesses. Construction is set to begin immediately, with an expected completion period of 18 months.
