
University of Colombo Hosts Special Forum to Support Development of the Western Province
A special forum aimed at harnessing the expert knowledge of scholars from the University of Colombo to support the development initiatives of the Western Province was held on July 9, 2025, at the College House Premises.
The forum served as a platform to present a range of proposals focused on key sectors, including poverty alleviation, regional development, tourism promotion, and the encouragement of self-employment opportunities. It was jointly organised by the Office of the Governor of the Western Province and the University of Colombo, emphasising the importance of collaboration between academia and regional authorities for sustainable development.
The event witnessed the participation of distinguished guests, including the Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Governor of the Western Province, Hon. Hanif Yusoof, Chief Secretary of the Western Province, Secretaries to the Ministries of Education and Health of the Western Province, Chairman of the Western Province Tourist Board, along with deans and directors of the University also actively participated in this important forum.
The forum highlighted the potential of academic expertise in shaping effective policies and advancing the socio-economic landscape of the region through innovative and actionable solutions.
