10th World Ayurveda Day Celebrated in Sri Lanka with Focus on Integration of Traditional and Modern Medicine

The 10th World Ayurveda Day was jointly organised by the Ministry of Health and Mass Media, the Department of Ayurveda, the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre, and the Faculty of Indigenous Medicine at the University of Colombo on 23 September 2025. His Excellency Santosh Jha, the High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, and Hon. Dr Nalinda Jayatissa, the Minister of Health, graced the occasion. The event was conducted under the theme “Ayurveda for People and Planet,” to enhance the quality, safety, and effectiveness of Ayurvedic medicine, while promoting its integration with modern medicine in alignment with sustainable development goals. The keynote address was delivered by retired Professor R S Jayawardena, who was also honoured for his contributions to the development of Ayurveda in the Sri Lankan context.
