Workshop on Orientation to the University System - SDC

The Staff Development Center (SDC) conducted a half-day workshop on ‘Orientation to the University System’ on 23 August 2023 at the SDC premises. This workshop is a part of the Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (CTHE) 2023 course, and 38 participants representing various faculties of UoC, as well as other private and public universities, attended.
The workshop commenced with a welcome speech by Professor Maduka Udunuwara, the director of SDC. Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne, the Vice-Chancellor of the University, enlightened the participants with his speech on ‘Introduction to the University System and the University of Colombo.’ Mr. K. A. S. Edward, the Registrar of the University, provided an overview of the ‘Organizational structure, policies, procedures, and functioning of the university.’ The session on “Financial rules and regulations” was conducted by Ms J. T. L. Dharmasena, the Bursar of the University. Ms T. D. D. Pathiranage, the Deputy Registrar of academic Establishments delivered her lecture on ‘Promotion and career advancement,’ and Ms H. S. M. D. S. M. Samarakoon, Assistant Registrar of academic Establishments, also delivered a lecture on the ‘Leave and awards procedure.’
