Wetland and Sri Jayawardenapura Kotte Study Excursion
Department of Geography, University of Colombo and the Wetland Management division , Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation (SLLR&DC) jointly organized a field study excursion around Kotte wetland marsh land and Sri Jayawardenapura on 04th April 2015, for the academic staff members of the Department of Geography with the staff members of the SLLR&DC . The main objective was to understand biodiversity and ecosystem service in Colombo metropolitan wetland area and its importance to maintain sustainable urban environment. The wetlands present value and services was explained by Dr. N. Wijeratne, Deputy General Manager, Wetland Management division, Sri Lanka Land Reclamation & Development Corporation
The study tour was started from the Naval Jetty near the Open University, by boat from Sri Lanka Navy under their guidance. The boat tour was ended from the Naval Jetty at the Japan Friendship Road, by passing Nawala wetland park, Kotte marsh, Diyatha uyena Lake, Kollonnawa Marsh and the parliament lake. Sri Lanka Navy arranged the logistics for security of the participants.
The study tour was completed after visiting the Bio-Diversity study park in Thalawathugoda, Baddagana Biodiversity park, Kotte Kingdom (Rampart Wall) and the Kotte museum.
