Opening of the Renovated People’s Bank Building at De Saram Women’s (Medical) Hostel

The opening ceremony of the renovated People’s Bank Building at the De Saram Women’s (Medical) Hostel was held on 12th September 2025. The building was originally established in 1996 with the generous support of People’s Bank to commemorate its 35th anniversary and to improve facilities for the hostel community. The recent renovation, undertaken at a cost of over Rs. 11 million, was completed under the Bank’s Mahajana Mehewara Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. This renovation is expected to significantly enhance the living environment for students, providing upgraded amenities and a more supportive atmosphere that fosters both academic and personal development.
The event was graced by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, together with other university officials, as well as Professor Narada Fernando, Chairman of People’s Bank, Mr Clive Fonseka, Chief Executive Officer of People’s Bank, and other representatives from both the University and People’s Bank.
The ceremony concluded with expressions of appreciation to all who contributed to making this project a success, with special gratitude extended to People’s Bank for its continued commitment to the welfare of students.
