Fulbright Sri Lanka Executive Director Dr Patrick McNamara Meets Vice Chancellor to Strengthen Academic Ties

The Executive Director of the United States – Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission, Dr Patrick McNamara visited the University and met with Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake at the College House premises on 16 September 2025. They discussed the long history between Fulbright Sri Lanka and the University of Colombo, which dates back to the establishment of the Commission in 1952. Dr McNamara explained the opportunities provided by the Fulbright Commission, which can be beneficial to the university staff and the students. Vice Chancellor Karunathilake shared his vision for increased internationalisation at the University of Colombo, which aligns well with the mission of Fulbright.
They were joined by Senior Lecturer and Head of the International Relations Department, Dr Pavithra Jayawardena, who presented the copies of recent publications of the Department to the Executive Director. The meeting reassured to continue the longstanding relationship between the two institutions, founded on a mutual appreciation for education and international exchange.
