University of Colombo and NIA Strengthen Collaboration to Advance Innovation and Entrepreneurship

The National Innovation Agency (NIA) visited the University of Colombo on 30 April 2026 for a strategic discussion aimed at strengthening innovation and entrepreneurship initiatives within the University. The meeting was led by Vice Chancellor Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake and Dr Muditha Senarath Yapa, representing the NIA. The NIA delegation also included Ms Thidasi Dahanayaka, Ms Vindya Jayawickrama, and Ms Navodi Wickramasinghe. Representing the University of Colombo were Dr Asanka P Sayakkara and Ms Shalika Ariyarathne.

Discussions focused on enhancing the University’s newly established Innovation and Startup Incubator through collaboration with the NIA, particularly in the areas of intellectual property management, technology transfer, commercialisation, and startup incubation. The engagement marks an important milestone in positioning the University of Colombo as a driving force for innovation and entrepreneurship in Sri Lanka. The collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for young innovators while contributing towards the advancement of the country’s knowledge-based economy.
