International Women’s Day 2019
The International Women’s Day 2019 celebration organized by the Faculty of Graduate Studies was held on 8th March 2019 at the College House, Auditorium under the theme “Think Equal – Build Smart – Innovate for Change”. Hon. Sujeewa Senasinghe, Non Cabinet Minister of Science, Technology & Research, was the chief guest and the Vice-chancellor Senior Professor Lakshman Dissanayake, the dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, Senior Professor Nayani Melegoda, the dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Professor A. Jennifer Perera, the Coordinator of Masters & Postgraduate Diploma in Gender and Women’s Studies, Dr Asha Abeyasekera and the other invitees participated in this occasion.
The Faculty of Graduate Studies at the University of Colombo carries the honour of having introduced the first-ever programme in Women’s Studies to the Sri Lankan University system in 1991. The programme continues as a Post-graduate Diploma leading to a Masters in Gender and Women’s Studies. The celebration of “International Women’s Day” is a calendar event at the University of Colombo.
