Celebrating Language & Culture: Confucius Institute Hosts Book & Journal Launch and Certificate Awarding Ceremony

The Confucius Institute (CIUC), Faculty of Arts, hosted a vibrant ceremony on the 18th of August 2025 at the Faculty Board Room, bringing together academia and John Keells CG Auto (Pvt) Ltd.
The event marked the launch of the book on Chinese Language & Culture and the inaugural issue of the Colombo Journal on Chinese Studies. The event commenced with a welcome address delivered by the Sri Lankan Director/CIUC, Dr. Shashinie M. Thenabadu. The introduction to the book on Chinese Language and Culture, along with the Colombo Journal on Chinese Studies, was presented by Prof. Anuththaradevi Widyalankara, former Director and Chief Editor, together with the Chinese Director/CIUC Prof. Lei Mingzhen, Co-Editor of the Colombo Journal on Chinese Studies. Both publications highlight the growing academic and cultural exchange between Sri Lanka and China.
Distinguished guests included Prof. Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, the Vice Chancellor of the University, and Senior Prof. Lasantha Manawadu, Dean of the Faculty of Arts, who delivered insightful remarks on the importance of strengthening language and cultural studies in fostering international collaboration.
The ceremony also featured the Certificate Awarding Ceremony for John Keells CG Auto (Pvt) Ltd. staff, who completed the Chinese language course conducted by the Confucius Institute. A student representative shared their learning journey, reflecting on how Chinese language skills will enhance professional growth and international connectivity. The atmosphere was warm and engaging, with lively exchanges among academics and professionals. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Lei Mingzhen, the Chinese Director/CIUC, followed by networking and refreshments, creating an inspiring space for future cooperation and knowledge sharing.
