Ms. Jayani Tharangi Mawela – Faculty of Science
University of Colombo congratulates Ms. Jayani Tharangi Mawela, Faculty of Science on receiving the Open Awards – Prof. Tilak Hettiarachchy Award for Academic Excellence at the General Convocation 2020. Ms. Jayani Tharangi Mawela, a student from St. Paul’s Girls School Milagiriya entered the University in 2017 securing 11th place in Colombo district in Advanced Level from the Bioscience stream. She graduates with first-class honours specializing in Chemistry from the University of Colombo. She was the recipient of the Sujatha Guruge Foundation Scholarship for her academic excellence in the first-year examination and represented Sri Lanka in the 12th Asian Science Camp held in Indonesia in 2018.
Ms. Jayani received Professor Mailvaganam Mahendran Scholarship for her outstanding academic performance in the third-year examination in science and her undergraduate research findings were presented at the conference proceedings of the Open University Research Sessions in 2021. She was awarded the gold medals for organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and the highest aggregate in the chemistry honours degree program. She also received Joseph Nalliah Arumugam Memorial Award for the highest competence in the final examination in the Faculty of Science.
