Empowering Academic Staff: “Enhancing Information Searching and Utilizing Online Tools for Research Paper/Dissertation Writing and Thesis Supervision”

The Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) successfully conducted a specialized workshop titled “Enhancing Information Searching and Utilizing Online Tools for Research Paper/Dissertation Writing and Thesis Supervision” on 5th and 12th September 2024. Held at the Jayarathne Auditorium, Faculty of Management and Finance, the full-day sessions attracted 48 participants, including academic staff, Ph.D. candidates, and research students.

The workshop, facilitated by Dr N M Karannagoda, Senior Assistant Librarian at the University, aimed to equip participants with advanced techniques in information searching and the effective use of online tools for research writing and thesis supervision. Participants learned how to access and evaluate a variety of digital resources, which are crucial for enhancing the quality and efficiency of academic work.

The sessions also provided insights into how digital platforms can be leveraged to facilitate more effective research practices and improve the overall academic writing process. The workshop was part of HRDC’s ongoing efforts to support the professional development of academic staff and empower them to better navigate the increasingly digital landscape of academic research.

This workshop is one of several initiatives designed to enhance the research and academic capabilities of staff at the University. It further solidifies HRDC’s commitment to fostering a culture of continuous learning and capacity building within the university.
