Donating Two Computers to Kudawa Primary School by Colombo University Volunteer Project
The University Volunteer Project is carried out in association with SPARC, (Faculty of Arts) University of Colombo, United Nations Volunteers and Ministry of Social Service. This project always intends to promote the community volunteer activities among university students through the active participation in the field and sharing knowledge gained in university. Students of Department of Sociology mostly joined many of such community activities. Under this University Volunteer Project two computers were donated to Kalawana / Kudawa Primary School considering the Information Technology education of these students.
This school is located at the fool of Sinharaja rain forest, one of World Heritage of Sri Lanka. Even if thousands of international and local people came to visit the natural world of Sinharaja forest, nobody is much concerned about the innocent and needy people living by this forest. The volunteers of University of Colombo came forward to take care some of the needs of Kudawa primary school. Around forty university students participated in volunteer activities of Kudawa Primary school on the day of donating two computers on 21st of November 2015. The program of donating computers, volunteer activities and some cultural entertainments at school were successfully accomplished under the guidance of Dr. M. T. M. Mahees, university volunteer project coordinator. The principal, all the teachers and all parents actively joined the volunteer program and school students also performed some cultural activities. University volunteers who are good at general information technology made the school teachers and students aware on the basic requirements of using a computer.
