Delegation from Robert Koch Institute visits University of Colombo

A delegation led by the Head of the division of highly pathogenic viruses at the Center for Biological Threats and Special Pathogens (ZBS) at Robert Koch-Institute, Germany, Professor Andreas Nitsche visited University of Colombo on 20th of November. Dr. Janine Michel, Ms. Juliane Fraissinet, Ms. Beate Becker-Ziaja, Ms. Franziska Schwarz and Ms. Caroline Eberle representing Robert Koch – Institut accompanied Professor Andreas Nitsche. During the visit, the delegation met Senior Professor Chandrika N Wijeyaratne, Vice-Chancellor, University of Colombo, on 28th November 2019 along with Professor Wipula Yapa, Professor Sunil Premawansa of Department of Zoology and Environment Sciences, Faculty of Science, and Director-International Office Dr. Sashika Manoratne. The Vice Chancellor was informed that Molecular Diagnostic laboratory was established in 2018 at the Department of Zoology and Environment sciences with the research collaboration funded by the “Global Health Protection Program” (GHPP) of the Federal Ministry of Health, Germany. Two PhD students from University of Colombo are being trained in Robert Koch Institute as a part of this collaboration. Vice Chancellor thanked the delegation from the RKI and discussed about further collaboration. She also promised to extend her full support in future activities. The meeting was organized by the International Office of University of Colombo.
