Commencement of Duties for the Year 2026

The University of Colombo officially initiated its activities for the New Year on January 1, 2026, at the College House premises. A special ceremony marked the occasion, attended by the Vice Chancellor, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, the Rector of Sri Palee Campus, the Deans of Faculties, the Directors of Institutes and the University of Colombo School of Computing, the Registrar, the Librarian, the Bursar, and all other staff members of the University. The event commenced with the hoisting of the National and University flags, followed by the singing of the National Anthem.

This was followed by a two-minute silence in remembrance of the members of the Tri-Forces who sacrificed their lives in service to the motherland, the staff members who served the University and have passed away, and those who lost their lives in the recent Dithwa Cyclone. The program concluded with the reading aloud of the Oath/Affirmation of Public Servants by the staff members.
