UoC Honours Outstanding Sports Achievements at Colours Awarding Ceremony 2023

University of Colombo celebrated the remarkable achievements of its undergraduate sportsmen and sportswomen at the Colours Awarding Ceremony held on April 4th, 2023. The event was held at the Auditorium of UCFM Tower, Faculty of Medicine, where 400 students were recognized for their exceptional performances at the Inter-University Championships, National, and International levels in 2022. The ceremony was graced by the presence of the Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne, as the Chief Guest and Former commander of Sri Lanka Army General Daya Rathnayake as the Guest of Honor.
Among the event’s highlights, the Mr A. L. D. Moonemalle Challenge Cup for the most outstanding Men’s Team has been jointly awarded to the Taekwondo Men’s Poomsae Team and Rowing Men’s Coxed Four crew. The Professor D. A. Ranasinghe Challenge Cup for the Most Outstanding Women’s Team has been awarded to the Table Tennis Women’s Team. The Mr Chintaka Jayawardena Memorial Trophy for the sportsman winning the most number of colours has not been awarded this year.
The Professor Stanley Wijesundara Memorial Trophy for the Sportswoman winning the most colours has been jointly won by A.P.D.B. Perera of the Faculty of Management & Finance and U.T. Andrews of the Faculty of Science. The Mr Leslie Handunge Challenge Cup for the most outstanding Sportsman and the Mr S. T. Walpita Challenge Cup for the most outstanding Sportswoman of the year 2022 have been awarded to Mr H. M. R. N. Maduwantha of the Faculty of Science and Ms R. M. P. A. Rajapaksha of the Faculty of Arts, respectively.
