Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship Program 2023 and Cultural Extravaganza

In a grand ceremony that radiated cultural vibrancy and academic camaraderie, the University of Colombo hosted the prestigious Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship Program 2023 and a mesmerizing Cultural Event on 14 November 2023. The proceedings commenced with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, a symbol of auspicious beginnings. Professor Sashika Manoratne, the Director of the International Office, extended a warm welcome to the delegation led by the Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhen Hong, Cultural Counselor Mr Jong Ying Bao, First Secretary Ms Li Qingrui, Madam Yun of the Chinese Cultural Center, and Mr Hui from Xizhang.
The keynote addresses delivered by the Vice-Chancellor Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne and the Ambassador of Peoples’ Republic of China to Sri Lanka, Qi Zhen Hong, echoed the sentiments of cooperation and goodwill. A pivotal moment in the event unfolded when the Chinese delegation, led by Ambassador Qi Zhen Hong, generously donated a substantial sum of 3.2 million rupees under the Chinese Ambassador’s Scholarship Program 2023 to the University of Colombo. This philanthropic gesture underscores the commitment to fostering educational opportunities and cross-cultural exchanges between the two nations.
Adding a captivating layer to the event was the performance by the Xizang Art Troupe, showcasing a mesmerizing array of singing and dancing items that illuminated the auditorium with the rich tapestry of Chinese cultural heritage. In recognition of the outstanding performance by the Xizang Art Troupe, the Vice-Chancellor presented tokens of appreciation, expressing gratitude for their contribution to the celebration of cultural diversity.
