Book Launch: ‘Immigrants’ Citizenship Perceptions: Sri Lankans in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand”

The book titled ‘Immigrants’ Citizenship Perceptions: Sri Lankans in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand‘ authored by Dr Pavithra Jayawardena, was launched at the Senate Hall on August 3rd, 2023. The book is published by Peter Lang and it comes out as the sixth volume of the series of ‘Studies in Transnationalism’ edited by Dr Jatinder Mann. His Excellency Michael Appleton, New Zealand High Commissioner to Sri Lanka arrived as the Chief Guest while the Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor (Chair) H.D. Karunaratne was the Guest of Honour. The Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Senior Professor Lasantha Manawadu delivered the Welcome speech, followed by Dr Pavithra Jayawardena’s brief introduction to her new book.
Symbolising the launching of the book, Dr Pavithra handed over the first copy to HE Appleton. Followed by the launching, a panel discussion by Former Vice Chancellor, Emeritus Professor Lakshman Dissanayake, Dr Kiran Grewal from Goldsmiths, University of London and Dr Udan Fernando from Association of Asian Studies, Michigan took place. The panel was moderated by Senior Professor Nayani Melegoda and it brought out several timely insights of Sri Lankan migration. The head of the Department of International Relations, Professor Chaminda Padmakumara delivered the Vote of Thanks. A wide range of participants attended the event including diplomats, academics, policymakers, scholars, researchers from universities and think tanks, military officials, activists, media personnel and students.
