Annual Research Symposium 2015 – Faculty of Medicine
The Annual Research Symposium of the Faculty of Medicine, Colombo which was held on the 28th of October 2015 was graced by the presence of the Honorable Vice Chancellor, Professor Lakshman Dissanayake. To align with the theme of the Symposium, Enhancing Quality in Research and Health Development the organizing committee put together a truly exceptional programme. Professor Sirimali Fernando, Chairperson National Science Foundation, and the Chief Guest for the event addressed the gathering on the Role of Research in University Development. The Keynote address Universal Health Care in Sri Lanka: Failures and/or Successes over 75 Years was delivered by Dr. Krisantha Weerasooriya, Former Professor of Pharmacology, Faculty of Medicine, Colombo. A lively Plenary lecture titled Academics as Thought Leaders: Promises and Pitfalls, was given by Professor Ajantha Dharmasiri, Director, Post Graduate Institute of Management, University of Sri Jayawardenepura.
The Organizing Committee received a large number of abstracts and the review process involved the participation of academics and scientists mainly from other Universities and Research Institute. There were ten oral presentations and the rest of the abstracts were displayed as posters. The day’s events concluded with a symposium on Shaping the future of research for University Academics that was delivered by three prominent academics namely, Professor Senaka Rajapakse, Professor in Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Colombo, Professor Neelika Malavige, Professor in Microbiology, Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Medical Sciences, University of Sri Jayawardenepura and Dr Prasad Katulanda, Senior Lecturer, Department of Clinical Medicine, Faculty of Medicine, Colombo.
