
University of Colombo Signs MoU with Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC)
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with the Sri Lanka Inventors Commission (SLIC) on 22 June 2026, marking a significant step forward in our commitment to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship, and research commercialisation.
This collaboration with SLIC, the apex national body for inventions and innovations, will further strengthen our capacity to support student entrepreneurs and researchers by integrating academic excellence with national-level industry expertise. Through this partnership, our newly-established Innovation & Startup Incubator will benefit from enhanced curriculum development, specialised intellectual property advisory services, industry mentorship, and facilitated access to funding networks, all of which will empower our academic community to translate groundbreaking research into tangible societal and economic impact.
The MoU was signed by Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, Vice Chancellor, and Professor Veranja Karunaratne, Commissioner of SLIC, in the presence of distinguished representatives from both institutions, including Professor Pujitha Wickramasinghe (Dean of the Faculty of Medicine), K C Sanjeevani Perera (Registrar), Dr Asanka P Sayakkara (Director of the Innovation & Startup Incubator) from UoC, and Mr N N W Dolawatta (Director/CEO), and Mrs Wasanthi Gamage (Legal Officer) from SLIC.
