The Awarding Ceremony of the Mitsubishi Foundation (MUFG) Scholarship 2025

The Awarding Ceremony of the Mitsubishi Foundation (MUFG) Scholarship for 2025 was held on 18 December 2025 at the Senate Hall, College House premises. This marked the ninth consecutive year of the scholarship award, reaffirming the strong relationship between the University of Colombo and MUFG Bank in recognising and supporting academic excellence.
The event was held under the patronage of the Vice-Chancellor, with the participation of the Registrar, Bursar, Dean of the Faculty of Technology, and other senior university officials. Representing MUFG Bank were Mr Michiyasu Saito, Managing Director of MUFG Bank Chennai Branch & Chief Representative Officer of MUFG Colombo Representative Office, and Ms Shalini Jayarathne. The ceremony formally commenced with a warm welcome to all attendees, followed by an introductory video presentation on MUFG Bank, highlighting the institution’s global vision, core values, and commitment to education. Addressing the gathering, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, delivered a congratulatory speech emphasising the importance of international partnerships and the role of scholarships in empowering students to achieve academic and professional excellence.
This was followed by a congratulatory address by Mr Michiyasu Saito. In his address, he reaffirmed MUFG Bank’s commitment to supporting higher education and nurturing future leaders through sustained investment in young talent. The highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of scholarship certificates and cash cheques to seven outstanding students of the University of Colombo, marking a significant milestone in their academic journeys. Following this, one of the scholarship recipients, Ms Oshini Pilapitiya, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks on behalf of all the scholarship winners, expressing sincere appreciation to MUFG Bank and the University of Colombo for the invaluable support and encouragement extended to students.
