Alumni Association of NSW Donates Musical Instruments to Support Cultural Development

The Alumni Association of NSW Inc., Australia, generously donated musical instruments worth LKR 1 million to the Music Circle of the Faculty of Management and Finance on 10 September 2024. The donation was made in response to a request from the Vice Chancellor, Senior Professor (Chair) H D Karunaratne, as part of the university’s effort to restructure its Arts Council and Cultural Centre.

During a recent visit to Sri Lanka, Mr Vijitha Thalapavila, President of the Alumni Association of NSW Inc., committed to supporting this initiative, which aims to foster the cultural and artistic development of students across all faculties. According to the new proposal, each faculty will establish its own Music Circle, Dance Circle, Drama Association, and Literary/Painting Circle, along with other aesthetic groups. These groups will be equipped with the necessary instruments and resources, provided by the Alumni Associations and the Vice Chancellor’s Fund.

In addition, the university plans to launch inter-faculty competitions in various aesthetic activities, starting in 2025, to encourage student participation and celebrate artistic talent.
