UOC and IOM Collaborate on Migration and Training Programs

The University of Colombo received an invitation to participate in a key event hosted by the United Nations International Organization for Migration (IOM) at its Head Office in Colombo, on August 29, 2024. Senior Professor (Chair) H D Karunaratne, the Vice Chancellor of the University, attended a discussion with Ms Kristin Parco, Chief of Mission at IOM. The discussion focused on potential research collaborations and short-term training programs related to migration.

The event also included an Awareness Program on Healthy Migration for selected student counsellors from the University of Colombo. This Training of Trainers program, conducted by the Deputy Chief of Mission at IOM, aimed to prepare counsellors to provide accurate information to students considering international migration. Including Professor Karunaratne, Dr Rajitha De Silva, Senior Student Counselor, and 15 other academic staff members from the University who participated in the program. This collaboration reflects the University of Colombo’s commitment to exploring migration issues through research and training.
