University and CICT Sign Agreement to Advance University Sports through Ambassador Cup 2025
The 3rd edition of the Ambassador Cup Invitational University Badminton Tournament is set to take place in October 2025. This prestigious tournament, open to both students and staff of universities in Sri Lanka, has become a significant annual event aimed at fostering camaraderie and goodwill within the higher education community.
This year’s tournament will be held with the generous sponsorship of Colombo International Container Terminals (CICT), marking a continued partnership between academia and industry. A formal cooperation agreement was signed on 21 July 2025 by Mr Zhang Jianhui, CEO of CICT, and Professor Indika Mahesh Karunathilake, the Vice Chancellor of the University, solidifying CICT’s commitment to promoting sports and social development among Sri Lankan universities.
The university expressed gratitude for CICT’s continued support, noting that the collaboration not only enhances the competitive spirit of the tournament but also builds lasting ties between institutions across the country. CICT, renowned as South Asia’s first and only deepwater terminal capable of handling the world’s largest vessels, has consistently demonstrated its dedication to corporate social responsibility. Their support for the Ambassador Cup is yet another reflection of their commitment to the well-being and development of Sri Lanka’s future leaders.
The Ambassador Cup promises an exciting showcase of talent and teamwork, with universities from across the island preparing to participate in what has now become a highly anticipated annual sporting event.
