The International Conference in Information Science
The International Conference in Information Science – ICIS 2015 organized by NILIS was held in Colombo on 13th November, 2015. Around 100 participants attended the event, with over 20 papers and posters presented. Chief guest of the conference inauguration was Dr. Sudarshini Fernandopulle, Hon. State Minister of City Planning and Water Supply. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Keith Davies, Director – British Council, Sri Lanka. NILIS Chairman Dr. Ruvaiz Haniffa, and members of the Board of Management were also present. ‘Scholarly Publishing and Challenges faced by Authors’ presented by Chaturanga Weerasekera was named as the Best Poster, while ‘Critical evaluation of five English language online newspapers in Sri Lanka against established web usability criteria’ created by the students of the Postgraduate Diploma in Information Management – 2015/2017 batch (Kisholi Mendis, Yashodha Dharmawardhana, Rasika Thushantha, Shafkan Hamza, and Samantha Liyanage) won the Best Poster Award.
Additional to the conference, an MPhil/PhD Colloquium (12th November) and a Workshop on Instructional Pedagogy (14th November) was also held. These events also were attended by a large audience.
